NOVATEK Receives Patent for Proprietary “Arctic Cascade” Gas Liquefaction Technology
Moscow, 21 March 2018. PAO NOVATEK (the “Company”) obtained a federal patent No. RU 2645185 C1 for its proprietary natural gas liquefaction technology called “Arctic Cascade”. The patented LNG technology is based on a two-stage liquefaction process that capitalizes on the colder ambient temperature in the Arctic climate to maximize energy efficiency during the liquefaction process.
According to Alexander M. Fridman, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board, “Arctic Cascade” is NOVATEK’s first patented liquefaction technology using equipment produced by Russian manufacturers. Our goal is to localize the fabrication and construction of LNG trains and modules to decrease the overall cost of liquefaction and develop a technological base within Russia”.
PAO NOVATEK is one of the largest independent natural gas producers in Russia, and in 2017, entered the global LNG market by successfully launching the Yamal LNG project. Founded in 1994, the Company is engaged in the exploration, production, processing and marketing of natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons. Upstream activities of the Company’s subsidiaries and joint ventures are concentrated mainly in the prolific Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, which is the world’s largest natural gas producing area and accounts for approximately 80% of Russia’s natural gas production and approximately 15% of the world’s gas production.
